Gregory Sean Sheehan´s work seems at first sight to ignore the central theme of "Kunst-Sequenzen 2007". The theme was centered on and essentially involved with the art-space of Gotmarstrasse 1. His work which hangs in the "Weisser Saal" seems initially to be a conventional exercise in landscape painting. However upon closer examination it becomes quite clear that Sheehan´s intention involves a determined exercise in exploring the effects art has on the beholder. This work is miles away from any monopolising art trend implemented for ambiguous purposes other than the artistic. This work has a lot to do with spirituality, contemplation, meditation and lies within the ongoing project of human development in the classical enlightened sense. In the words of Goethe, "They who have art, also have religion. But they who have no religion, they have art!" Sheehan´s three piece division of the winged alter displayed here marks out a way, per aspera ad astra. From darkness to light. This work entices a sort of spiritual ascent and cleansing process which counter-points and is in sharp contrast with the noise of the busy street immediately outside the doors of the "Weisser Saal".
