... "We find an explanation for the word Arboreal when we refer
to its Latin origin, arbor, (f) is the tree, poetically also the oar and
even the ship. Arbor also translates as rod, equally flag pole or
the shaft of a cross. The multiple meanings of this simple word arbor are suggestively open to interpretation in relation to the
work which we see here tonight in the Studio Wasserscheune".
"Gregory Seán Sheehan´s predominant working material is turf.
Applied along with small sparkling pieces of mica, tiny stones -
which he quaintly describes as - "my stars in the turf sky".
This material dissolves and breaks up the black darkness of the
turf which is almost as old as the mountains from which it is
gathered".
"Gregory Seán Sheehan´s paintings are methodically built up,
layer upon layer and often open out revealing vistas of a world
which initially seems familiar..." Excerpt from the opening speech by Norbert Beansch.
